The Arts Education Funders Learning Circle is a growing effort to bring arts and education funders together on a quarterly basis to:
| 10:00am | Welcome and Roundtable Updates |
| Common Core – What are the Possibilities for Arts Education? | |
| 10:30am | Julie Fry, Hewlett Foundation, will give an abbreviated version of a recent Grantmakers in the Arts webinar she co-presented on this topic. More than two-thirds of the states (including California) have adopted the Common Core Standards in English Language Arts and Math, establishing clear guidelines for what students need to know and be able to do in order to graduate from high school prepared for college and/or career. But what will Common Core mean for the arts and arts education? How can we, as funders, participate? |
| 10:45am | Guests: Natasha Hoehn, Silver Giving Foundation, and Ben Sanders, California Education Partners Silver Giving and CEP partner to support learning and collaboration between California’s school districts and their partners to improve student success. Part of their work at the district level includes the implementation of Common Core Standards, with a focus on curriculum, assessments, and teacher professional development. Natasha and Ben will give us their perspective on what is happening on the ground with Common Core, and we will then open it up to a group discussion about the inclusion of the arts. |
| 11:30am | Adjourn |
This learning circle is open to NCG members and non-member grantmakers.
This event is free to all participants. However, space is limited so early registration is encouraged.
