Benefits of Membership

Membership in NCG improves grantmaking skills, enhances collaboration with other grantmakers, and helps members make the most effective use of their charitable dollars and resources. NCG members represent funders of all shapes and sizes, leading and challenging the philanthropic sector to be more effective, reflective, and responsive. This work is reflected in the Effectiveness & Accountability Principles.

Access to Information

Through educational forums, special briefing sessions, and timely communications, NCG keeps its members informed.

Currently, NCG sends the following electronic updates to members:

• Quarterly Newsletter: Online publication featuring member editorials, program summaries, member news, and a synthesis of grantmaker resources. Focusing on quarterly themes, the NCG newsletter highlights issues impacting the philanthropic sector [i.e. the changing economy].



• Program Announcements: Every year NCG offers over 30 free educational programs and workshops for members. Program announcement emails outline learning objectives, speaker bios, program details, and registration information.



• NCG Connects: As part of a consortium of regional grantmaker associations, NCG provides members with learning opportunities both here in northern California and nationally. Featuring national webinars, teleconferences, and online resources, NCG Connects allows members to take advantage of professional development without leaving the office.

Professional Development for Grantmakers

NCG offers a broad range of educational programming from basic skill development for the new grantmaker, to advanced refresher trainings for seasoned grantmakers, to issue-based best practice forums for all levels of staff. See What We Do for more information.

NCG members are invited to participate in our programs free of cost or at reduced rates. Members can also access podcasts and other program materials from events you may have missed by going to Event Archive.

Networking & Leadership Development

NCG provides members the opportunity to get to know their colleagues in other grantmaking organizations, to share information about programs and priorities, and to build cooperative relationships. NCG also options for leadership development of grantmakers: either through developing content for programs, serving in leadership roles through committee participation, or connections with other peers to uncover other opportunities.

Collective Problem Solving

Through collaborative funding programs and task forces on specific community needs, NCG members can address problems which are too large and complex for any one funder to tackle individually. Services & Discounts

Your NCG membership entitles you access to an ever-growing list of discounts, services and resources.

Online Resources: User your member login to gain access to member-only content, including podcasts of NCG programs, and a Knowledgebase created in collaboration with participating regional associations of grantmakers.

Salary Survey: Northern California data, compiled annually from Council on Foundations survey, on compensation at all professional levels in the philanthropic field.
