Nonprofit Financial Analysis

NCG partners with the Nonprofit Finance Fund to present Nonprofit Financial Analysis, a skill-building workshop that teaches workshop participants to read between the lines and comprehend the story behind the numbers.

With a foundation's investments on the line, reading financial statements is a critical part of a grantmaker's job. Participants review financial statements from sample grantees to learn what grantmakers should consider when reviewing nonprofit financials—including what to look for in financial statements (beyond the basics), analyzing cash flow, and assessing an organization's reserves.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore common misconceptions and underlying financial realities about nonprofits;

  • Explain how finances support (or undermine) programs; and

  • Discuss funder–based approaches that build and sustain financially healthy enterprises.
