Northern California Grantmakers have developed and adopted principles of accountability, and through the diligent work of our Effectiveness & Accountability Task Force, the NCG board of directors, and NCG staff, earlier this year we rolled out the Effectiveness and Accountability Principles as a statement of values to the field of philanthropy.
Since then, we have continued to seek feedback from our membership about how philanthropies can best apply these principles.
Overwhelmingly, we heard from members that you embrace the spirit of these important principles and that you want to be part of a community that reflects them. NCG remains committed to upholding these Effectiveness and Accountability Principles in every aspect of the work we do. The board of directors, staff, and standing committees will work to manifest the core tenets of the Effectiveness and Accountability Principles through our ongoing programmatic activities.
We also heard some concerns over requiring the leadership of each foundation to adopt the Principles by signing a pledge. As a result of this feedback, the board of directors has determined that signing the Principles will not be a requirement of membership to NCG. Instead, your participation as a member of NCG demonstrates a commitment to these shared values.
Each grantmaking entity that belongs to NCG is unique and our regional association benefits from the breadth and depth of our diverse membership. We invite you to continue to actively participate in our vibrant philanthropic community as we explore the Effectiveness and Accountability Principles. Please do not hesitate to contact either of us or any member of the NCG board with any comments or feedback you might have.
