All-Member Gatherings
On October 17, 2006, NCG sponsored an All-Member Gathering, Katrina: Lessons for Bay Area Philanthropy. The briefing marked the anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake, a date which reminds us that we are likely to face a major natural disaster in the Bay Area.
The goal of the briefing was to get foundations thinking about how prepared their organizations are to respond to a local major disaster with loss of life, extensive property and infrastructure damage, and a stricken economy.
Leaders from Louisiana’s philanthropic and the nonprofit sectors shared lessons learned about how grantmakers can prepare for and address widespread devastation. The presentation included a facilitated discussion focusing on relevant lessons from Hurricane Katrina for the Bay Area’s philanthropic sector.
